Mackie's 2 Year Doctor's Appointment & RASH!

Today was the scheduled appointment for Mack's 2-year visit at the Doctor's office! When he awoke, I found that his face had broken out or had been bitten by something! The areas around both eyes and his nose were all spotted with little red whelts and they looked pretty bad! He had a few "bite" looking things on his nose from earlier in the week, but they had pretty much cleared up already, so when he got up looking this way literally overnight, Mark & I were both a bit concerned!

We arrived at the Doctor's office and the Nurse asked all the usual questions, and asked about the rash...we told what we knew.....then when the Doctor came in, he was quite concerned. He felt as though Mackie had come into contact with someone who might have exposed him to the Cold Sore Virus. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh Dear Me! That's NOT good! Mark & I both started freaking out, but the Doctor said that he wasn't sure and that he wanted to start him on an anti-viral and possibly refer us to an eye Doctor in Boone. After MUCH discussion about the what if's and hows with the Doctor (the MOST wonderful Doctor in all of the WORLD), we left to go get the prescription. Before leaving we gave Mackie a dose of Benedryl and hoped for the best. When we picked up the medicine, he was still asleep, so we waited on giving him the medicine. When he woke up............................the red places looked MUCH better...not all gone, but better at least!!! We decided to hold off on the anti-viral since the Benedryl had done something the Doctor said it would not be able to do if it was the virus. All day and night, we gave him the Benedryl and he kept getting better, not gone, but better....Sat. morning, we called the Doc. to let him know Macks changes and to let them know we had NOT given the anti-viral medicine. We were told that since he was reacting well to just the Benedryl, to NOT give him the other Meds.

Here are some pictures taken of his stages of the rash...

At the office before being told that this might be really serious... In the car immediately after leaving the office (this was actually better looking than it had been at the office)
That night...
The next morning...
Saturday afternoon....
He's looking much better. We'll take him back on Monday morning for a follow-up visit. Hopefully it will be gone by then!
